Learn More About The town of Nantucket
The town of Nantucket, known simply as "Town" by everyone who lives here, is the heart and soul of the island. With its cobbled streets and historic buildings, it's a hub of activity where all visitors must spend some time while enjoying a Nantucket vacation.
The Nantucket Whaling Museum is a testament to the strong ties Nantucket has with the whaling history of the island. Beautiful shops line the streets with unique items that you can't find anywhere else. And you can visit some of the best art galleries in New England, from current or past artists. The waterfront and wharves also offer an amazing glimpse into the past.
There are many restaurants to enjoy as well as ice cream shops -- the most popular one being the Juice Bar. Churches are open to the public and should be seen by everyone. One of the most beautiful is St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Fair street, which has genuine Tiffany windows.
The Old Historic District in Town showcases dozens of historic homes. There are Walking Tours whose guides will tell you about many of them. In addition, the Nantucket Historical Association, of which the Whaling Museum is part, owns many historic homes and interesting buildings which may be visited for a fee.
Town offers many Nantucket rental homes and is an ideal area for families...easy access to "downtown", for restaurants and shops.
