Learn More About Brant Point
Brant Point, one of the more exclusive parts of the island, is just steps from downtown Nantucket. There are footpaths to access various pocket beaches, which all are on Nantucket Sound and therefore nice for children.
Jetties Beach
The most relaxing beach on Brant Point is Jetties, where you can find many amenities at Jetties Restaurant. With its calm shoreline and easy wading, it's the perfect beach for families with young children. There is also a large playground area, easy-to-access food, lifeguards, as well as restrooms and showers. In August the beach plays host to The Boston Pops, who come out every year for a major fundraising effort for the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
There's also a must-see Sand Castle Event each year. Sand Castle builders from all over the country come and try to win the coveted prize.
Brant Point Lighthouse
Brant Point Lighthouse is the gateway to Nantucket. If you come by ferry, it's the first real sense that you have arrived to our special island. It was built in 1746 and is still a major landmark for today's mariners. It's also a great fishing hole. Fishermen who are "in the know" regularly cast their rods here to catch bluefish and bass. Tradition has it that if you toss a penny over board as you pass the lighthouse on your return to the mainland you will have a speedy return to our magical island for another Nantucket vacation.
