Figawi Regatta,Memorial Day Weekend

                                                             Figawi Regatta

Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-28, 2012)is an uniquely Nantucket Holiday as we host the 41st Annual Figawa Regatta. More than 250 boats of all sizes and Classes set sail from Hyannis during the morning hours and head across the sound to round Brant Point and moor in the harbor and slips in the Nantucket Marina. The crews  and their guests come ashore to brag and tell their stories, and enjoy the festive events crowned by the evenings Fagawi Charity Ball.

It’s thrilling to watch the arrival of the racing boats as the come into view, especially if you’re lucky enough to a have a vanatage point on Jetties Beach or best of all atop the Congregational chruch tower or the Whaling Museum’s obersation deck. HERE WE GO AGAIN! Superbowl XLVI

By Margita - Last updated: Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Amy Santos' mom shows her support. Go Pats!

You will be hearing a lot over the next two weeks about this year’s “rematch” in the 2012 Super Bowl. However, outside of the same quarterbacks, same coaches, and same uniforms, this years matchup between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots actually isn’t all that similar to the classic showdown in 2008, as Pro Football Talk points out.

Both teams have replaced most of their starters between both sides of the ball. The Giants return nine starters off of their championship squad, while the Pats return just five. Offensively, the Giants return Eli Manning, running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, and offensive linemen David Diehl, Chris Snee and Kareem McKenzie. The Patriots will be returning Tom Brady, receiver Wes Welker, and the entire left side of its offensive line in Matt Light and Logan Mankins.

Both teams have essentially replaced their entire defensive lineups. The Patriots’ Vince Wilfork is technically the only player still starting from the game four years ago between the two squads, though there is no doubt that defensive end Osi Umenyiora will factor heavily into the Giants’ 2012 gameplan despite occupying the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.”

Although it may not be a surprise to those who frequent Nantucket’s shores, National Geographic names the Nantucket Beaches as number 6 in their TOP TEN beaches to visit.

Taken from their Blog, “The most popular beaches on this island in theNorth Atlanticare Surfside and Children’s. The waters here are relatively calm, and there’s plenty of sand to use for sunbathing or castle-building.Madaket Beach is known for its rougher surf and not-to-be-missed sunsets.Quidnet Beach provides great views of Sankaty Head lighthouse”.

Thank you National Geographic, we agree!

Nantucket Film Festival- June 2012

By Margita - Last updated: Tuesday, January 10, 2012

The Nantucket Film Festival was founded by brother and sister team Jill and Jonathan Burkhart in 1996. The Burkharts lived on the island year round, and with their love of movies and the community, they knew it was the perfect place to begin a film festival. In 1997, Mystelle Brabbée joined the team and today, with Colin Stanfield as Executive Director, NFF continues to thrive, always remaining true to its mission.

These days, NFF has become one of the premiere destination film festivals in the world. Visitors come from all over to experience our preview screenings, signature programs, and stand out hospitality on a magical island rich with history, a friendly atmosphere, and beautiful sandy beaches.
