The first Nantucket Book Festival, scheduled to run from June 15-17, will include panel discussions, talks, and readings for adults and children with both on and off-island writers.
Initiated by Wendy Hudson and others, the Festival will include a tented book fair, parties, authors in bars, author brunch, a pig roast and more. Events will take place at the Dreamland Studio Theatre and Harborview Room, the Nantucket Historical Association, Unitarian Church, Nantucket Bookworks, Mitchell’s Book Corner, and the Nantucket Atheneum Great Hall. A tent will be set up in the Atheneum Garden for local authors. All events will be FREE or reasonably priced.
Some of the writers already confirmed are: Elin Hilderbrand, Nancy Thayer, Nat Philbrick, Kathryn Kay, Buzz Bissinger, Blue Balliett and Delia Ephron. The Festival will kick off with a FREE Friday night welcoming reception–open to the public–with some of the authors at the Unitarian Church. Most of the events will take place during the day on Saturday–some concurrent with others–followed by a Saturday night party at the Nantucket Whaling Museum.
The Festival welcomes your help and ideas. Contact them at nantucketbookfestival@gmail.com The Book Festival is actively seeking Founding Partners to meet their matching challenge grant. Contact them at 508-919-6230.
It’s the first day of Spring and we are enjoying record temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Walking around downtown this afternoon, seeing the daffodils in bloom, people on park benches with a book or even an ice cream from the pharmacy seems almost a little eerie. It’s not often we have the island so mild and awake before all of our shops are a buzz. Here are a few photos taken on my afternoon stroll.

Anyone familiar with the Ellen Degeneris show will appreciate this!
When we have festive folks just going about their everyday business.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day !

It’s Daylight Saving Time again! Another reminder to us all that spring is fast approaching as well as long lazy beach days.
Statistics show that more daylight hours means less traffic accidents, fatalities and crime. It also means that happy hour can be had sitting on on a sun soaked deck.
So set those clocks ahead an hour before you go to bed tonight and allow yourself that one day to “sleep in”
